Fourth And Goal: Weary Lyon Eye Another UWCL Title

OL Féminin are on the brink of a fourth straight UEFA Women’s Champions League title, a feat unseen in either the men’s or women’s game since Real Madrid swept the first five men’s titles to close out the 1950s. Barcelona vs. Lyon: Squeaky Bum Time, French Edition

This Wednesday, Lyon face their hardest test of the season – attempting to walk away from Camp Nou with a score draw (or win!). No one had expected Lyon to be in this position in the first place. When Lyon were paired with Barcelona back in December, the outcome seemed certain.

And while a Barcelona win is still a likely scenario, Les Gones do have a fighting chance. The 0-0 draw in the first leg ensured that Barca do not have an away goal, so if Lyon can live up to their reputation – a team that plays its best against superior opposition – perhaps a berth in the quarterfinals is possible after all.

Champions League Draw and Other Irrelevant News

It’s Barcelona.

Blah.

To be fair, any of the teams Lyon could have drawn in the Round of 16 would be a difficult challenge, but I really didn’t want to see Eric Abidal’s face again. Now I’ll have to suffer through multiple pre-match interviews where he’ll talk down about his old Lyon days. Can’t wait.
